The Walton County WIC program provides the following breastfeeding services free to the public:

  • Peer counselors on call
    • Mother-to-mother support is one of the most successful approaches to encourage breastfeeding. Peer counselors will help you develop a breastfeeding plan for your baby to support and encourage your breastfeeding journey.
  • Certified Lactation Counselors (CLC)
    • Our lactation counselors are trained professionals and experienced breast feeding mothers. They help educate breastfeeding mothers and prenatal mothers expecting to start breastfeeding soon about how breastfeeding works and its benefits for mother and baby. The counselors provide support and resources to all prenatal mothers during pregnancy at least monthly and mothers who are currently breastfeeding, including those who experience breastfeeding complications.
  • Breast Pump Loan Program
    • Electric breast pumps are available for loan to qualified breastfeeding mothers.
    • Manual breast pumps are available for free, on an as needed basis, to breast feeding mothers who qualify.
  • Breastfeeding Classes
    • Breastfeeding classes are available to WIC clients, the community and all Walton county residents free of charge. Classes cover topics such as:
      • Common myths and concerns about breastfeeding
      • How breastfeeding works
      • Breastfeeding basics; proper positioning, latching essentials and more
