DeFuniak Springs- The Florida Department of Health in Walton County is pleased to
announce it will be hosting a second community meeting to discuss Florida Healthy Babies.
Florida Healthy Babies is a collaborative statewide initiative designed to positively influence
social determinants of health and reduce racial disparities in infant mortality. The meeting will
take place at in DeFuniak Springs on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.

“We are extremely pleased that over 50 community partners attended the first meeting and we
appreciated our speakers Josh Mitchell, Assistant State Attorney; Jeff Martin, from the Medical
Examiner’s Office; Chris Webster, from the Walton County Sherriff’s Office; Sherry Hundley,
from the Children’s Advocacy Center; and Drs. Judy Manning and Keely Kubly, sharing their
expertise with us. These partners were well educated on the issues impacting Infant Mortality in
Walton County,” said Holly Holt, Health Officer Florida Department of Health in Walton County.
The attendees heard from the speakers then broke up into small groups and began to
collaborate on action steps to help overcome the challenges identified. The second meeting will
continue this process and community partners are urged to attend, even if you were not able to
come to the first meeting.
At the present time our infant mortality rate is low, however this could change if we do not have
positive, proactive community discussion and interaction regarding the prevention of infant
mortality," said Ms. Holt.
